Affected Vehicles
Condition
Vehicle shudders when accelerating at 10 to 50% throttle from a stationary position, sometimes with fluctuating engine speed.
Technical Background
When closing the forward clutch, the friction value on the clutch plate linings is too high. When the clutch is closed with a high friction value (i.e. the
plate linings stick together), the clutch pressure is immediately reduced in connection with the active clutch control to maintain comfort by allowing
clutch slip. This control cycle is performed several times and leads to juddering.
Further causes:
^ Poor fuel quality (low octane rating) or engine noise.
^ TCM software update needed.
^ Radial run out of tires.
^ Engine or transmission mounts faulty.
^ Subframe mounts faulty.
^ Worn drive axle joints.
Production Solution
Introduction of 7 clutch plates on all 3.0L MPI.
Service
It is not necessary to receive an authorization number from the Technical Assistance Center for the repairs described in this bulletin.
