g. Replace the external ATF filter. Refer to Group 37, Automatic Transmission - Controls, Housing in the Repair Manual for complete external ATF
filter replacement instructions.

If the condition is resolved, no additional work is required.

TCM Software Check and Clutch Diagnosis

1. If the behavior of the vehicle is reproducible as per the Condition, check the repair history in ELSA to see if the transmission has been updated to 7
clutch plates already.

^ If the vehicle has not been updated to 7 clutch plates, continue to Step 2.

^ If the vehicle has been updated to 7 discs, check the table above to ensure the TCM software is at the latest data level.

a. If the data level is lower, load the latest TCM software.

^

Follow all instructions in the attached TSB 2011732 Software Version Management (SVM), operating instructions.

^ For flashing, use update CD 8E0-906-961J and update the gearbox software via Self Diagnosis >> 02-Gearbox- >> Update-Programming.

^

Use vehicle-specific entry to Guided Fault Finding.

^

All fault memories must be interrogated and erased.

^

Select 02 - Multitronic 01J Complaint Report >> Powertrain >> Function >> Bucking When Accelerating From A Standstill. Follow instructions
on screen.

b. Ater flashing the TCM, perform an adaptation drive. (On the tester, select Functions/component selection >> drive >> Multitronic 01J front-wheel
drive - self-diagnosis systems >> gearbox electronics 01J >> J217 gearbox control unit for Multitronic, functions >> J217 control unit for Multitronic,
adjustment.)

2. ATF must be a minimum of 65°C. Check TCM MVB 12. Save a copy of this MVB.

3. Subtract field 2 from field 1. If the value is below 65 mA, or a negative value, and if MVB 10, position 1 is below 300 mA (2005 and later model
years - below 350 mA):

^ Replace the 6-plate clutch pack with a new 7-plate clutch pack. Refer to Group 38: Input shaft servicing with 7 lining discs for complete instructions.

^ Parts must be ordered individually. A parts kit is no longer available for the 7-clutch plate application. All necessary parts and tools to complete clutch

plate repair are listed in the Required Parts and Tool section of this publication.

4. Following installation of repaired transmission to vehicle, update transmission control module software.

Note:

Failure to update software will cause transmission damage.
