Removing and installing auxiliary heater element -Z35-
  Note
t  Checking operation of auxiliary heater element -Z35- → Chapter
t  Vehicles with diesel engine are currently fitted with an electric supplementary heater (heat energy is added to the air flow immediately after exiting from the air conditioner unit heat exchanger). → Audi Sales Range
t  Vehicles with diesel engine and “auxiliary heater” as optional extra may not be fitted with an electric supplementary heater depending on the vehicle control system. On such vehicles, this function is assumed by the auxiliary heater, which operates as a fuel-driven supplementary heater (by adding additional heat energy to the coolant). → Audi Sales Range and → Auxiliary heating.
t  As of the start of 2003, modified auxiliary heater elements -Z35- have gradually been introduced (slightly different component width and “6” instead of “7” heater elements). These elements have a different part number, however both versions can be fitted as the air distributor housings are not being modified at present → Parts List.
t  Vehicles with petrol engine are currently not fitted with a supplementary heater.
t  All replacement air distributor housings have an opening to accommodate an auxiliary heater element -Z35-. For vehicles with no such element, the opening is to be closed off with a cover → Parts List.
