The illustration shows a fuel pressure damper -A- for “diesel”.
t
The fuel is only properly supplied to the atomiser unit if the fuel pipe -D- is not bent or squashed.
t
At the start of production, fuel pressure dampers were fitted on which the position of the compression spring (and thus the spring pre-tension) may change during operation. If the spring pre-tension is not OK, the fuel does not flow evenly into the combustion chamber and combustion problems may be encountered (smoke formation).
t
As of 02.04, auxiliary heaters of the “Diesel” type have been fitted with a modified fuel pressure damper. If problems involving the development of fumes or smoke are encountered on vehicles with diesel engine manufactured up to 02.04 on switching to part load operation or in part load operation and if the auxiliary heater is not to be removed and the fuel pressure damper replaced, the problem can be remedied by using the “Adaption” function in adaption channel “087” to increase the speed of the combustion air blower -V6- in part load operation → Anchor.
