Signal from flame monitor -G64-, signal for actuation of fresh air blower -V2-, power factor for heat output of auxiliary heater and quantity of fuel used by auxiliary heater since activation

Display zoneDisplay
1Signal from flame monitor -G64-
l  Display = Detected
–  The flame monitor -G64- has detected a flame.
–  The voltage between contacts “3” and “4” in the auxiliary heater connector is less than 2.5 V
l  Display = Not detected
–  The flame monitor -G64- has not detected a flame.
–  The voltage between contacts “3” and “4” in the auxiliary heater connector is greater than 2.5 V
t  Check flame monitor -G64- → Chapter

  Note
t  The flame monitor -G64- is a phototransistor. The flame monitor -G64- switches as soon as there is a flame of specified brightness in the auxiliary heater.
t  If the auxiliary heater is functioning properly, the flame monitor -G64- switches from “Not detected” to “Detected” roughly 20 .....60 seconds following activation.
t  The flame monitor -G64- cannot detect a flame if it is contaminated, e.g. by soot → Chapter.
t  Prior to activation of the auxiliary heater, the flame monitor -G64- is checked by the auxiliary heater control unit -J364-. The auxiliary heater does not start up if “Flame detected” is already signalled during the component test (voltage less than 2.5 V).

2Signal for actuation of fresh air blower -V2-
l  Display = 0 %
–  No request for activation of fresh air blower -V2- transmitted (by operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255-) on convenience data bus system
l  Display = 100%
–  Request for activation of fresh air blower -V2- transmitted (by operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255-) on convenience data bus system
–  The operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255- switches on the fresh air blower -V2-

  Note
t  The auxiliary heater control unit -J364- transmits the message for activation of the fresh air blower -V2- as of a coolant temperature of approx. 30 °C (up to 45 °C depending on version of auxiliary heater control unit -J364-) via the convenience data bus system.
t  The operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255- starts up, moves the air conditioner/heater control motors to the specified position and switches on the fresh air blower -V2- at the speed specified for the “auxiliary heating mode” function.

Display zoneDisplay
3Power factor for current heat output of auxiliary heater
l  Display = 0 %
–  Auxiliary heater is switched off or currently in “control interval” mode
l  Display = 40 ...100%
–  Auxiliary heater is switched on and currently operating at this heat output level
–  In full load operation, the display is between 90 and 100% depending on coolant temperature and the voltage at the auxiliary heater control unit -J364-

  Note
t  For the auxiliary heater to be able to attain its maximum heat output, the voltage at the auxiliary heater control unit -J364- must be greater than 11.5 V.
t  The auxiliary heater operates in full load mode up to a coolant temperature of approx. 84 °C. On exceeding this temperature level, the heat output is reduced by switching to part load operation.
t  The auxiliary heater switches back to full load operation if the coolant temperature drops below approx. 71 °C.
t  The auxiliary heater switches to the control interval if the coolant temperature in part load operation exceeds approx. 91 °C.
t  The auxiliary heater switches back to full load operation if the coolant temperature in the control interval drops below approx. 71 °C.
t  The auxiliary heater is switched directly to the control interval if the coolant temperature in the auxiliary heater on activation is greater than approx. 78 °C.

4Quantity of fuel in cm3 (millilitres) used since activation of auxiliary heater

  Note
t  The quantity of fuel displayed is calculated by the auxiliary heater control unit -J364- on the basis of metering pump -V54- actuation.
t  The metering pump -V54- delivery rate is approx. 0.03 cm3 of fuel per stroke.
t  The quantity of fuel calculated by the auxiliary heater control unit -J364- is transmitted by way of the convenience data bus system to the control unit in dash panel insert -J285-. Depending on engine version, the control unit in dash panel insert -J285- incorporates the quantity of fuel used by the auxiliary heater into the average engine fuel consumption display (applies for example to vehicles with diesel engine on which the auxiliary heater operates as supplementary heater). → Electrical system; Rep. Gr.01 and → "Guided fault-finding" function of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051.
