1 - Automatic gearbox control unit -J217-
q   Fitting location → Fig.
q   Control unit is checked by self-diagnosis
q   Removing and installing → Servicing multitronic 01J and 0AN; Rep. Gr.38 (first remove end cover → Chapter)
2 - Hydraulic control unit
q   Fitting location → Fig.
q   Valves are checked via self-diagnosis.
q   Removing and installing → Servicing multitronic 01J and 0AN; Rep. Gr.38 (first remove end cover → Chapter)
3 - Selector mechanism cover
q   → Chapter „Removing and installing selector mechanism cover (vehicles up to VIN 8E_6A156499)“
q   → Chapter „Removing and installing selector mechanism cover (vehicles from VIN 8E_6A156500 onwards)“
4 - tiptronic switch -F189-
q   Fitting location: integrated in printed circuit located in selector mechanism cover
q   Consists of 3 Hall sensors actuated by a magnet on the transverse slide of the sliding cover.
q   If malfunctions occur in the tiptronic switch -F189-, first check that the magnet on the transverse slide of the sliding cover is secured properly. If necessary, renew sliding cover. The printed circuit should only be renewed after the wiring has been checked.

5 - Selector lever lock solenoid -N110-

8 - Starter inhibitor and reversing light relay -J226- (to 10.04) or starter inhibitor relay -J207- (from 11.04)

9 - Voltage supply relay, terminal 87/ automatic gearbox relay -J60-

10 - Selector lever position display -Y6-
q   Fitting location → Fig.
q   A fully illuminated selector lever position display indicates a simple fault
q   A flashing selector lever position display indicates a critical fault
q   A blank display indicates defective wiring or a defective selector lever position display -Y6-.
11 - Kick-down switch -F8-
q   Not fitted as a separate component: on vehicles with petrol engine this function is performed by accelerator pedal position sender -G79- and accelerator pedal position sender 2 -G185-. The two senders are integrated in the accelerator pedal module; fitting location → Fig.
q   On vehicles with diesel engine the kick-down switch is incorporated in accelerator pedal position sender -G79- located in accelerator pedal module; fitting location → Fig.
q   Signal recognition in engine control unit, signal transmission from engine control unit to gearbox control unit via CAN bus
q   Removing and installing accelerator pedal module → Rep. Gr.20
12 - Brake light switch -F-
q   Fitting location → Fig.
q   Signal recognition in engine control unit, signal transmission from engine control unit to gearbox control unit via CAN bus

Automatic gearbox control unit -J217-
t  Fitting location: automatic gearbox control unit -J217- is fitted at rear end of gearbox directly on hydraulic control unit.
The following components are integrated into the control unit:
A - Gearbox output speed sender -G195- and gearbox output speed sender 2 -G196-
B - Gearbox oil temperature sender -G93-
C - Multi-function switch -F125-
D - Gearbox input speed sender -G182-
E - Automatic gearbox hydraulic pressure sender 1 -G193-
F - Automatic gearbox hydraulic pressure sender 2 -G194-
Removing and installing automatic gearbox control unit -J217- → Servicing multitronic 01J and 0AN; Rep. Gr.38 (first remove end cover → Chapter)

Hydraulic control unit
t  Fitting location: The hydraulic control unit is bolted to rear end of gearbox. The automatic gearbox control unit -J217- is fitted directly onto the hydraulic control unit.
A - Connector for automatic gearbox pressure control valve 1 -N215-
B - Connector for automatic gearbox pressure control valve 2 -N216-
C - Connector for solenoid valve 1 -N88-
The following valves are integrated into the hydraulic control unit (not shown in illustration):
t  Automatic gearbox pressure control valve 1 -N215- (clutch solenoid valve)
t  Automatic gearbox pressure control valve 2 -N216- (solenoid valve for transmission ratio)
t  Solenoid valve 1 -N88- (clutch cooling/safety shut-off).
t  Clutch cooling valve
t  Minimum-pressure valve
t  Pressure limiting valve
t  Clutch control valve
t  Control-pressure valve
  Note
t  The valves are monitored via self-diagnosis.

t  Location: the selector lever lock solenoid -N110- is located in the selector mechanism -arrow-.

Diagnostic connector
t  Fitting location: The diagnostic connector is located below the knee padding on the left side of the steering wheel.

Cruise control system switch -E45-
t  Fitting location: cruise control switch is located on steering column switch.

Selector lever position display -Y6-
t  Fitting location: integrated into instrument cluster.
  Note
The selector lever position display -Y6- can only be renewed together with the instrument cluster.

Voltage supply relay terminal 87/ automatic gearbox relay -J60- and starter inhibitor and reversing light relay -J226- (to 10.04) or starter inhibitor relay -J207- (from 11.04)
t  Fitting location: on relay carrier in electronics box in plenum chamber
Voltage supply via terminal 87 differs as follows:
1 - Automatic gearbox relay -J60- - only on vehicles with 2.4 ltr. petrol engine
3 - Motronic current supply relay -J271- - on all other vehicles with petrol engine
3 - Terminal 30 voltage supply relay -J317- - vehicles with diesel engine
4 - Starter inhibitor and reversing light relay -J226- (to 10.04) or starter inhibitor relay -J207- (from 11.04)
  Note
On vehicles from 11.04, the reversing lights are activated via CAN bus.

Brake light switch -F-
t  Fitting location: the brake light switch -arrow- is located on pedal cluster.
  Note
To ensure a secure fit, the switch may only be fitted once.

Kick-down switch -F8-
t  Fitting location: integrated in accelerator pedal module -arrow-
  Note
t  On vehicles with petrol engine accelerator pedal position sender -G79- and accelerator pedal position sender 2 -G185- perform the function of the kickdown switch -F8-.
t  On vehicles with diesel engine the kick-down switch -F8- is incorporated in accelerator pedal position sender -G79-.
