Checking oil pressure and oil pressure switch

Special tools and workshop equipment required

t	Oil pressure tester -V.A.G 1342-

t	Voltage tester -V.A.G 1527 B-

t	Auxiliary measuring set -V.A.G 1594 C-

t  CLIC hose clip pliers -V.A.G 1723- Test conditions l  Oil level OK l  Engine oil temperature min. 80 °C

Test sequence –  Pull off engine cover panel -arrows-.

–  Unbolt coolant expansion tank -arrow-. –  Unplug electrical connector for coolant shortage indicator switch -F66- at expansion tank (bottom) and move expansion tank to one side (coolant hoses -1 ... 3- remain attached).

–  Unplug electrical connectors at intake manifold pressure sender -G71--item 1- and intake manifold flap air flow control valve -N156--item 2- from front of intake manifold.

–  Release hose clips at connections -arrows- using CLIC hose clip pliers -V.A.G 1723-.

–  Detach vacuum hose -5- at intake manifold. –  Remove bolts -2- and -3- and detach throttle valve module -J338- from intake manifold. –  Unscrew nuts -1- and -4-. –  Detach intake manifold from flanges.   Note Block off intake ports in cylinder head with clean cloths.

–  Unplug electrical connector -arrow- at oil pressure switch -F1-. –  Unscrew oil pressure switch -F1-.

–  Connect oil pressure tester -V.A.G 1342- with adapter -V.A.G 1342/14- to bore for oil pressure switch. –  Screw oil pressure switch -2- into oil pressure tester -V.A.G 1342-. Checking oil pressure switch –  Connect brown wire -1- of oil pressure tester to earth (–). –  Connect voltage tester -V.A.G 1527 B- with test leads from auxiliary measuring set -V.A.G 1594 C- to oil pressure switch and battery positive (+). l  LED should not light up. If the LED lights up: –  Renew oil pressure switch. –  Install intake manifold and start engine.   Note Observe tester and LED while starting, as switching point of oil pressure switch may already be exceeded when starting. l  LED should light up at 1.2 ... 1.6 bar. If LED does not light up: –  Renew oil pressure switch. Checking oil pressure –  Start engine (engine oil temperature approx. 80 °C). l  Minimum oil pressure at idling speed: 2.0 bar. l  Minimum oil pressure at 2000 rpm: 2.7 … 4.5 bar.

Assembling Installation is carried out in the reverse order; note the following:   Note t  Renew gaskets and seals. t  Secure all hose connections with the correct type of hose clips (same as original equipment) → Parts catalogue. –  Slip intake manifold onto connecting hoses. –  Secure hose clips at connections using CLIC hose clip pliers -V.A.G 1723-. Tightening torques
