Removing and installing bracket for power steering pump and oil cooler Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Pin wrench -3212-

t  Used oil collection and extraction unit -V.A.G 1782- Removing –  Drain off coolant → Chapter. –  Remove poly V-belt for power steering pump, alternator and viscous fan → Chapter

–  Unbolt refrigerant pipe bracket -arrow- from sump.   WARNING The air conditioner refrigerant circuit must not be opened.

–  Unplug electrical connector -1- at air conditioner compressor regulating valve -N280-. –  Unscrew air conditioner compressor from bracket for power steering pump and oil cooler -arrows-.   Note To prevent damage to the refrigerant lines, ensure that the pipes and hoses are not stretched, kinked or bent.

–  Tie up air conditioner compressor onto subframe, leaving refrigerant lines connected -arrow-.

–  Unbolt bracket for A/C compressor -arrows-.

–  Unbolt poly V-belt pulley at power steering pump -arrows-, using pin wrench -3212- as a counterhold. –  Unbolt power steering pump from bracket and tie up.   Note Pipes of power steering pump remain connected.

–  Slacken hose clips -arrows- and push clips back along hoses. –  Place used oil collection and extraction unit -V.A.G 1782- under engine. –  Detach rear hose from oil cooler. –  Slacken mountings -1 ... 4- and remove bracket for power steering pump and oil cooler together with oil cooler.   Note Caution: oil and coolant will come out.

Installing Installation is carried out in the reverse order; note the following:   Note t  Renew gaskets and seals. t  Secure all hose connections with the correct type of hose clips (same as original equipment) → Parts catalogue. –  Bolt on power steering pump at holes -B- on bracket -A-.

–  Install power steering pump pulley. l  Installation position: marking “vorne” (front) faces in direction of travel. –  Counterhold using pin wrench -3212- when tightening bolts -arrows-. –  Install poly V-belt for power steering pump, alternator and viscous fan. → Anchor –  Install radiator cowl → Chapter. –  Install viscous fan → Chapter. –  Fill cooling system → Anchor. Tightening torques
