Removing and installing intermediate pipe (left-side)

Removing

–	Remove starter catalytic converter: vehicles without particulate filter → Chapter, vehicles with particulate filter → Chapter.

–	Cover opening -arrow- in gearbox to prevent small parts from dropping in.

–	Unscrew bolts -1- and -2- and detach oil return line.

Note

Shown in illustration with engine removed and intermediate pipe detached.

–	Unbolt coolant expansion tank -arrow-.

–	Detach electrical connector at coolant shortage indicator switch -F66- on coolant expansion tank (bottom).

–	Lay aside coolant expansion tank with coolant hoses -1- and -2- connected.

–	Unbolt intermediate pipe -arrows-.

Installing

Installation is carried out in the reverse order; note the following:

Renew gaskets, O-rings and self-locking nuts.

–	Install starter catalytic converter: vehicles without particulate filter → Chapter, vehicles with particulate filter → Chapter.

Tightening torques

Component

Intermediate pipe to:

30 + 90° ¹⁾²⁾³⁾

Intermediate flange

30 + 90° ¹⁾²⁾³⁾

Oil return pipe to:

Cylinder block

Intermediate flange

l	¹⁾ Renew nuts/bolts.

l	²⁾ Coat with high-temperature paste; for high-temperature paste refer to → Electronic parts catalogue

l	³⁾ 90° = one quarter turn.
