Suction-jet pump: operation
Suction-jet pump: operation
t  The fuel pump in the fuel delivery unit delivers fuel from the baffle housing to the engine.
t  Via the Y-connector, the fuel pump also provides a stream of fuel for the two suction-jet pumps, which serve to keep the baffle housing in the fuel delivery unit full of fuel.
t  The suction-jet pumps operate according to the principle of fluid entrainment: the stream of fuel from the fuel pump is passed through a nozzle in each suction-jet pump, and is thus accelerated. The accelerated stream of fuel draws off the surrounding fuel and delivers it to the baffle housing of the fuel delivery unit. One of the two suction-jet pumps draws fuel out of the chamber surrounding the fuel delivery unit. The second suction-jet pump draws fuel out of the front part of the fuel tank.
t  The fuel return pipe from the engine is connected into the fuel supply pipe between the fuel pump and the flange on the fuel tank via a double-branched connection. In this way the return pipe provides an additional flow of fuel for the suction-jet pumps.
