Removing and installing stone deflector 8E0 501 561 (old version) for track rod (three-piece version)

Special tools and workshop equipment required

t	Torque wrench -V.A.G 1410-

Note

t	The stone deflector for the track rod is only installed on vehicles with heavy-duty running gear.

t	The stone deflector 8E0 501 561 (old version) can only be installed in vehicles with a three-piece track rod (old version).

Renewing stone deflector with track rod removed

–	Slacken off bolts -2-.

–	Push clamps -1- inwards.

–	Unclip stone deflector from track rod.

Installation is carried out in the reverse sequence.

Tightening torque for Item 2: 5 Nm

Removing

–	Cut open the stone deflector in the vicinity of the bolt connections at the trapezium link using a knife. Take care not to damage track rod.

–	Slacken off bolts -2-.

–	Push clamps -1- inwards.

–	Unclip stone deflector from track rod.

Installing

–	Make a cut at top of new stone deflector -A-.

–	Push clamps -1- inwards.

–	Clip stone deflector onto track rod.

–	Push clamps -1- outwards and tighten bolts -2- to 5 Nm.
