Airbag safety precautions > < Checking child-seat restraint function for additional child seats (not for driver's seat belt)
General Body Assembly, Interior (Repair groups 68, 69, 70, 72, 74)
Checking seat belts
Checking belt-fastened sensor for rear three-point belts with belt tensioner

Connect up V.A.G Tester 1551 or 1552 and go into measured value block no. 4.

=> Body Self-diagnosis; Repair group 01; Self-diagnosis of airbag system BTU (Basic Triggering Unit) with side airbag; Reading measured value block

Belt fully retracted: display on V.A.G tester - no -.

Latch plate engaged in buckle and belt pulled out by dimension - L -: Display on V.A.G tester - yes -.

Pull out belt webbing as far as possible. On doing so, display on V.A.G tester must remain on - yes-.

Then retract belt as far as dimension - L - but do not yet release latch plate; display on V.A.G tester must remain on - yes -.

Release latch plate and slowly retract belt; at the latest when the belt has retracted as far as the last 100 mm, display must switch from - yes - to - no -.

Belt fully retracted: display on V.A.G tester - no -.

  • ◆ On saloon models dimension - L - is 250 mm for left and right belt. Belt sideways adjuster set to centre position.
  • ◆ On Avant, dimension - L - is 220 mm for left and right belt. Belt sideways adjuster set to centre position.
  • ◆ On saloon and Avant models dimension - L - for centre belt is 500 mm.
