  • Speed sensor
    • ◆ Identical part on left and right
    • ◆ Removing and installing
      .
    • ◆ Connector for speed sensor
  • Drive shaft with rotor
    • ◆ Inspect rotor for signs of dirt and damage
    • ◆ If the rotor is damaged, replace the outer CV joint together with the rotor => Repair group 40
    • ◆ Outer CV joint is supplied as a replacement part with the rotor.

  • Collar bolt
    • ◆ Always replace
    • ◆ Different versions => Parts List
    • Vehicle must be standing on the ground when tightening this bolt.
    • Tightening torque:

=> Running Gear, FWD and 4WD; Repair group 40

  • Clamping sleeve
    • ◆ Always replace
    • ◆ Identical part on left and right
    • ◆ Grease all around with lubricating paste G 000 650 before inserting in wheel bearing housing
    • ◆ Press home in wheel bearing housing
  • Sealing collar

Removing and installing speed sensor on front axle

Removing

 
A40-0052
  • ‒ Loosen wheel bolts.
  • ‒ Raise vehicle.
  • ‒ Remove wheel.
  • ‒ → Detach grommet -1- from the wheel housing.
  • ‒ Disconnect connector of speed sensor wiring -2-.
  • ‒ Unclip speed sensor wiring from retainers (arrows).
  • ‒ Pull ABS speed sensor from wheel bearing housing.

Installing

  • ‒ Before inserting the speed sensor, fit the sealing collar and coat the speed sensor all around with lubricating paste G 000 650.
  • ‒ Install ABS speed sensor.
  • ‒ Clip speed sensor wiring into retainers and fit grommet in wheel housing.
  • ‒ Fit wheels and tighten to 120 Nm.
  • ‒ Turn steering to full left lock and full right lock and check clearance of speed sensor wiring.

Checking rotor on front axle, removing and installing if necessary

  • ‒ Raise vehicle.
  • ‒ Remove wheel.
  • ‒ Pull speed sensor out of wheel bearing housing.
  • ‒ Inspect rotor for signs of damage or dirt.

Note:

  • ◆ If the rotor is damaged or dirty remove the drive shaft. In the event of damage, replace outer CV joint together with rotor =>Repair group 40
  • ◆ The outer CV joint is supplied as a replacement part with the rotor.
