A45-0028
  • ‒ → Unclip speed sensor wiring from retainers.
  • ‒ Pull speed sensor out of axle beam.

Installing

  • ‒ Renew clamping sleeve (=> Page 45-63 -item 2).
  • ‒ Grease the O-ring of the speed sensor all around with lubricating paste
    G 000 650 before inserting.

A45-0032
  • ‒ Connect speed sensor wiring and press into retainers.

Pay attention to the following points when routing the speed sensor wiring:

  • ‒ → Route the speed sensor cable -1- in the area shown on the left and right below the brake pipe -2-.
  • ‒ On the left-hand side, maintain a clearance of about 2 cm between the heat shield of the exhaust system and the speed sensor cable.

A45-0033
  • ‒ → On the right-hand side, route the speed sensor cable -1- between the fuel lines -2-.
  • ‒ Fit wheels and tighten to 120 Nm.

Checking rotor on rear axle

  • ‒ Raise vehicle.
  • ‒ Remove wheel.
  • ‒ Pull speed sensor out of wheel bearing housing.
  • ‒ Inspect rotor for signs of damage or dirt.

Removing and installing rotor on rear axle

Removing

V42-0385
  • ‒ Raise vehicle.
  • ‒ Remove wheel.
  • ‒ Unbolt brake caliper => Repair group 46.
  • ‒ Suspend brake caliper from bodywork.
  • ‒ → Knock the grease cap off the wheel hub by means of light blows with the hammer on the claw of the special tool.

V42-0385
  • ‒ → Press off grease cap.
  • ‒ Remove split pin (=> Page 45-64 -Item 11-).
  • ‒ Remove locking ring (=> Page 45-64 -Item 9).
  • ‒ Remove hexagon nut => Page 45-64 -Item 8 -.
  • ‒ Take off thrust washer => Page 45-64, outer wheel bearing and wheel hub.
  • ‒ Drive off rotor => Page 45-64 with copper drift evenly through the threaded holes of the wheel hub.

Installing

A42-0038
  • ‒ → Press rotor onto wheel hub.
  • ‒ Fit wheel hub, outer wheel bearing and thrust washer onto stub axle.
  • ‒ Remove hexagon nut => page 45-64 -Item 8 -.

V46-0156
  • ‒ → Set wheel bearing play.

Note:

The wheel bearing play is set correctly if it is still just possible to move the thrust washer with a screwdriver by applying light pressure (on no account use lever action). To re-tighten, tighten the hexagon nut, but rotate the wheel during this step to avoid tensioning the bearing.

  • ‒ Secure with locking ring and new split pin.

V42-0629
  • ‒ → Knocking in grease cap

Note:

Damaged grease caps permit the ingress of moisture. That is why it is essential to use the tool shown in the illustration. A damaged grease cap must be replaced.

  • ‒ Install brake caliper => Repair group 46.
