• ‒ Remove the driver's side airbag unit.

=> General Body Assembly, Interior; Repair group 69; Servicing airbag on driver's side

• ‒ Remove airbag unit and steering wheel

=> Running Gear, FWD and 4WD; Repair group 48; Airbag, Steering wheel, Steering column; Removing and installing driver's airbag unit

• ‒ Wheels set to straight-ahead position.

Driver airbag unit and steering wheel removed.

• ‒ Pull steering column out and tilt downwards as far as possible.
• ‒ → Unscrew bolt -1- (2x), tightening torque 2.8 Nm.
• ‒ Remove grip -2-.

• ‒ → Remove two cross head screws -arrows-.
• ‒ Tightening torque 0.6 Nm.
• ‒ Remove upper trim panel for steering column switch -1-.

When installing, insert upper shell into hooks of lower shell, swivel downwards and screw in place.

• ‒ → Remove screws -2- (2x). Tightening torque 0.6 Nm
• ‒ Remove hexagon socket head bolt -1-.
• ‒ Tightening torque 0.6 Nm.
• ‒ Remove lower trim for steering column switch -3-.

→ The steering angle sensor -G85 is installed in housing -1- together with coil spring.

• ‒ → Remove connectors -1- and -2-.

• ‒ → Carefully lift hooks -arrows- and disconnect steering angle sensor.

Installing

The steering angle sensor -G85 must be in centre position before installing.

• ‒ Mount steering angle sensor until lugs engage.
• ‒ Remove transport protection.

• ‒ → A yellow dot must be visible in the hole -arrow 1-.
• ‒ Furthermore, the markings -arrows- must align.

Make sure that centre position is adhered to.

The remaining installation steps are carried out in the reverse sequence:

• ‒ Install airbag unit and steering wheel

=> Running Gear, Front-wheel Drive; Repair group 48; Airbag, Steering wheel, Steering column; Removing and installing driver's airbag unit

• ‒ Carry out basic setting of steering angle sensor -G85.
