Workshop Manual, General Body Assembly

Removing

  • ‒ Remove both rear wheels.
  • ‒ → Remove the heat insulation panel in the propshaft tunnel -arrow-.

 
N46-0135
  • ‒ → Remove locking element -D-.
  • ‒ Screw adjusting nut -C- in as far as the stop; counterhold with an open jaw spanner (13 mm AF) in the area -E-.
  • ‒ Push together cable adjuster.
 
A46-0057
  • ‒ → Pull out circlip -1- and detach the handbrake cables at the brake caliper.

Note:

Do not damage handbrake bellows when detaching and attaching.

  • ‒ → Unscrew handbrake cables from retainers on rear axle beam.

  • ‒ → Release heat insulation on rear silencer and push to one side.

  • ‒ → Open retainer and remove handbrake cables.

  • ‒ → Use a screwdriver to lever the handbrake cables out of the console.

  • ‒ Remove centre console extension,

=> General Body Assembly; Repair group 68

  • ‒ → Press handbrake cables in direction of handbrake lever using a screwdriver and push ball out of retainer.
  • ‒ Remove handbrake cables.

Installing

 
A46-0061
  • ‒ → Remove any plastic parts on compensating bar; they do not need to be reinstalled.
  • ‒ Fix compensating bar in place to stop it from turning (size 2 screwdriver).
  • ‒ Insert ball head through console into compensating bar.
  • ‒ Handbrake cable must engage in console.
  • ‒ Secure handbrake cables to rear axle beam and insert in retainers on underbody.
  • ‒ Adjusting handbrake =>Page 46-91.
  • ‒ Install centre console extension.
