Removing and installing piston for front brake caliper

Special tools and workshop equipment required

  • ◆ 3409 Assembly wedge
  • ◆ Piston resetting tool

Removing

 
A47-0105
  • ‒ → Press piston out of brake caliper housing using compressed air.

Note:

Place a piece of wood in the recess to prevent damaging the piston.

 
A47-0106
  • ‒ → Remove protective cap from piston groove.
  • ‒ For this purpose, use removal wedge 3409.
  • ‒ Remove piston.

Note:

Ensure that the surface of the cylinder is not damaged during removal.

 
A47-0107
  • ‒ → Remove protective cap.
  • ‒ For this purpose, use removal wedge 3409.
 
A47-0108
  • ‒ → Remove sealing ring.
  • ‒ For this purpose, use removal wedge 3409.

Note:

Ensure that the surface of the cylinder is not damaged during removal.

Installing

 
A47-0110
  • ‒ The surface of the piston and sealing ring should be cleaned using only methylated spirits and then dried.
  • ‒ Before inserting, thinly coat piston and sealing ring with assembly paste (lithium grease) G 052 150 A2.
  • ‒ → Insert inner sealing ring.
 
A47-0040
  • ‒ → Place protective cap with the outer sealing lip on the piston.
  • ‒ Thinly coat piston and sealing ring with assembly paste G 052 150 A2 before inserting.

 
A47-0111
  • ‒ → Using removal wedge 3409, insert the inner sealing lip into the groove on the cylinder.

Note:

At the same time, hold piston in front of brake caliper housing.

 
A47-0112
  • ‒ → Press the piston into the brake caliper housing by hand.

 
A47-0113
  • ‒ → Press piston into brake caliper housing.

Note:

The outer sealing lip of the protective cap will then locate in the groove on the piston.
