Renewing air conditioner compressor on account of leakage or internal damage > < Leaking or damaged components (except air conditioner compressor, reservoir or receiver)
Renewing air conditioner compressor without the need for refrigerant circuit cleaning
Renewing air conditioner compressor without the need for refrigerant circuit cleaning
  Note
Cleaning the refrigerant circuit means flushing with refrigerant R134a → Chapter or blowing out with compressed air or nitrogen → Chapter.
For example in the case of external damage following an accident
–  Discharge refrigerant circuit.
–  Remove the air conditioner compressor.
Electrically driven air conditioner compressor
–  Flush the defective electrically driven air conditioner compressor to remove the refrigeration oil (note down quantity of oil flushed out) → Chapter.
  Note
t  Do not flush the replacement air conditioner compressor if 75% of the refrigeration oil (corresponding to the quantity in the replacement compressor) was flushed out of the defective air conditioner compressor.
t  If less than 60 % of the specified refrigeration oil quantity is flushed out of the defective air conditioner compressor, the remaining oil is located in the refrigerant circuit components. To prevent overfilling with refrigeration oil, flush the refrigerant circuit or the electrically driven air conditioner compressor.
–  Flush the refrigerant circuit or new electrically driven air conditioner compressor to remove the refrigeration oil → Chapter.
–  Dispose of the refrigeration oil flushed out of the defective and the new air conditioner compressor / refrigerant circuit (heed → Audi-ServiceNet, HSO Environmental Protection).
  Note
The design of the electrically driven air conditioner compressor is such that it has to be flushed to remove the refrigeration oil (the refrigeration oil cannot be poured out as is the case with mechanically driven air conditioner compressors with an oil drain plug → Chapter).
–  Only fill the replacement air conditioner compressor with an amount of fresh refrigeration oil corresponding to the quantity of oil flushed out (of the defective air conditioner compressor).
  Note
t  If, for example, 70 cm3 of refrigeration oil has been flushed out of the defective air conditioner compressor and 140 cm3 out of the replacement compressor (a small quantity of refrigeration oil remains in the air conditioner compressor and possibly in the air conditioner service station), fill the air conditioner compressor to be installed with 70 cm3 of refrigeration oil (use is not to be made of the refrigeration oil flushed out of the replacement compressor as it could have become contaminated in the air conditioner service station).
t  Use different refrigerant oils and quantities for the various air conditioner compressors → Chapter.
t  If a greater quantity of refrigeration oil (more than approx. 80 cm3) has been flushed out of the defective air conditioner compressor, the remaining refrigeration oil can also be added to the evaporator or reservoir/receiver → Chapter.
Mechanically driven air conditioner compressor
–  Remove the oil drain plug from the air conditioner compressor (mechanically driven air conditioner compressor).
  Note
There are different versions of the oil drain plug and the corresponding seal (an O-ring or a sealing ring may be fitted, always renew) → Chapter and → Electronic parts catalogue.
–  To accelerate drainage of the refrigerant oil, crank the air conditioner compressor by way of the magnetic clutch plate for example.
–  Pour the old refrigerant oil out of the air conditioner compressor (for disposal, refer to → Audi-ServiceNet, HSO Environmental Protection).
–  Remove the oil drain plug from the replacement compressor, pour out the refrigerant oil and only add a quantity of fresh refrigerant oil equal to the amount poured out of the defective air conditioner compressor.
  Note
t  If, for example, 70 cm3 of refrigerant oil has been poured out of the defective air conditioner compressor and 220 cm3 out of the replacement compressor (a small quantity of refrigerant oil remains in the air conditioner compressor), fill the air conditioner compressor to be installed with 70 cm3 of refrigeration oil (use can be made of the refrigeration oil poured out of the replacement compressor).
t  Use different refrigerant oils and quantities for the various air conditioner compressors → Chapter.
t  If a greater quantity of refrigerant oil (more than approx. 80 cm3) has been poured out of the defective air conditioner compressor, the remaining refrigerant oil can also be added to the evaporator or reservoir/receiver → Chapter.
All models
–  Renew restrictor (only if installed in this refrigerant circuit).
–  Assemble, evacuate and charge refrigerant circuit.
