Overview of components

Note:

To adjust the clutch play, install components without shim(s) (Item 37-113

  • Reverse gear clutch -K2-
    • ◆ Does not need to be installed to determine shim(s)
    • ◆ Install for check measurement
  • Shim
    • ◆ Do not install when adjusting clutch play
    • ◆ Up to 3 shims may be installed

Determining thickness of shim(s) -C-

Conditions:

  • ● Planet carrier has been installed and adjusted
    => Assembling planetary gearbox, Page 37-113
  • ● To perform measurement, gearbox housing must be turned on repair stand so that input gear is facing downwards, as shown on .

→ The thickness of the shim(s) depends on the size of gap "x". Gap "x" is calculated using the following formula:

x = a - b

  •     1 -    ATF pump
  •     2 -    Reverse gear clutch -K2-
  •     3 -    1st to 3rd gear clutch -K1-
  •     4 -    3rd and 4th gear clutch -K3-

Calculating "a"

  • ‒ → Place short straightedge "A" onto pump flange on gearbox housing.
  • ‒ Press -K1- down in direction of arrow and measure distance into -K1- with depth gauge "B".

Calculating "b"

  • ‒ Place paper gasket onto ATF Pump.
  • ‒ → Place straightedge -B- onto stator support (arrow) and measure with depth gauge -A- to gasket of pump flange.

Gap x = a - b

  • ‒ Carry out clutch play check measurement after installing ATF pump.

Check measurement (clutch play)

  • ● The clutch play cannot be measured until the ATF pump has been installed.
  • ● Reverse gear clutch -K1- must be installed.
  • ‒ Attach dial gauge holder to gearbox housing and place dial gauge on turbine shaft with a preload of 1 mm.

Notes:

  • ◆ Bring the gearbox into its normal position as installed in the vehicle to enable the turbine shaft to be moved.
  • ◆ The turbine shaft should only be moved by hand; using pliers will damage the splines.
  • ‒ → Pull turbine shaft out and push it in (shaft will be difficult to move) and read off play on dial gauge.
  • ● Play: min. = 0.5 mm; max. = 1.2 mm.
