  • ◆ Gearbox control-unit gear monitoring checks transmission ratios by comparing gearbox input and gearbox output speeds with allowance for gear engaged in each case. This fault is displayed if an impermissible gear ratio (implausibility) is detected.
  • ◆ When testing stall speed, gearbox input speed in torque converter with vehicle stationary and gear engaged must be virtually zero. If this is not the case, this fault will also be displayed due to the possibility of clutch damage (Reading measured value block ; Display group number 001).

  • ◆ Fault detection conditions: Throttle valve signal OK, throttle valve value less than 25 % and short to earth in kickdown input at gearbox control unit(corresponds to kickdown signal) or short to positive; engine must be running.
  • ◆ This fault may be erroneously displayed if brake pedal is pressed and accelerator is pressed as far as kickdown (full throttle) at the same time although kickdown switch is OK.

1)    When selector lever is in Tiptronic gate, manual change-down can be implemented by tapping selector lever to rear (-) or - on vehicles with Tiptronic sports steering wheel - by pressing one of the minus (-) buttons on the steering wheel (change-down position).

2)    Tiptronic switch -F189 incorporates detection switch, change-up position and change-down position. It is permanently installed in the printed circuit board of the symbol panel, i.e. symbol panel must be replaced if Tiptronic switch -F189 is defective.

3)    Tiptronic switch -F189 receives information on Tiptronic gate recognition and Tiptronic change-up/change-down by way of the large magnet attached to the transverse slide of the masking panel. Masking panel must be replaced if magnet has worked loose.

4)    When selecting measured value block, note type of gearbox hydraulic control system. For a more detailed description, refer to Page 01-194 onwards => under "Reading measured value block".

Notes on fault code 18158 / P1750:

  • ◆ Fault detection condition: Battery voltage less than/equal to 9 V => Gearbox switches to emergency running mode => Page 01-3.
  • ◆ Failure of electrical system voltage (terminal 30) results in loss of application values, i.e. gearbox control unit has to learn these values again on restarting. Gearshift quality may be poorer than usual during this "re-learning" process.

3)    Selector lever lock solenoid -N110 cannot be deactivated, i.e. selector lever cannot be moved out of positions P or D even by pressing brake pedal.
