Removing and installing cooling system components

Removing

  • ‒ → Pull dipstick -1- out of guide tube.
  • ‒ Unclipcaps.
  • ‒ Remove nuts -arrows- and detach engine cover.
  • ‒ Remove insulation lying below.
  • ‒ Re-insert dipstick into guide tube.
  • ‒ Drain off coolant => Page 19-7.

  • ‒ → Detach bottom coolant hose from connection -2-.
  • ‒ Screw out connection bolts -1- and detach connection with thermostat -4-.
  • ‒ Turn thermostat a quarter turn (90 °) anti-clockwise and take out of connection.

Installing

Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:

Note:

Always replace gaskets and sealing rings.

  • ‒ Clean/smooth sealing surface for O-ring.
  • ‒ → Fit thermostat -4- with new O-ring -3- in connection -2- and turn a quarter turn (90 °) clockwise.

Note:

The bar on the thermostat must be pointing virtually straight up.

  • ‒ Fit connection with thermostat into cylinder block.
  • ‒ Tighten bolts -1-.
  • ‒ Fill cooling system with coolant => Page 19-11.

Checking thermostat

  • ‒ Heat thermostat in water bath.
