Removing

• ‒ → Release quick release fasteners -A- and -B- and take off front noise insulation.

Vehicles with air conditioner:

Note:

Mark direction of rotation of belt with chalk or felt pen before removing ribbed belt. If the belt rotates in the wrong direction when it is refitted, this can cause breakage.

• ‒ → Loosen bolts securing ribbed belt tensioner for A/C compressor -arrows-. Slacken belt and remove.
• ‒ Detach A/C compressor from bracket and secure to body with wire.

• ‒ → Remove right air intake hose -arrows-.

• ‒ → Remove bracket for turbocharger -arrows-.

• ‒ → Remove oil return pipe from cylinder block -arrows-.
• ‒ Unscrew nuts for turbocharger/exhaust manifold accessible from below.

• ‒ → Remove engine cover panel -arrows-.

• ‒ Remove air intake duct to air cleaner.

• ‒ → Disconnect hose -3- from air cleaner housing.
• ‒ Unplug connector -1- at air mass meter.
• ‒ Remove wiring harness from air filter housing -arrow-.
• ‒ Pull off air intake hose -4-.
• ‒ Unscrew bolt -2-.
• ‒ Take off air filter housing.
• ‒ Detach air intake from front of turbocharger.

• ‒ → Disconnect hose -2- at pressure unit for boost pressure control.
• ‒ Release bolt -1- from bracket for oil supply pipe.
• ‒ Disconnect oil supply pipe -3- from turbocharger.
• ‒ Unscrew turbocharger/catalytic converter nuts -arrows-.

• ‒ → Pull off hose -1-.
• ‒ Remove pipe for exhaust gas recirculation and mechanical exhaust gas recirculation valve -arrows-.
• ‒ Remove upper securing nut of turbocharger.
• ‒ Remove turbocharger.

Installing

Installation is carried out in the reverse order, when doing this note the following:

Notes:

• ◆ Fill the turbocharger with engine oil via the oil supply connection.
• ◆ Secure all hose connections with the correct hose clips (same as original equipment):

• ◆ Always replace seals, gaskets and self-locking nuts.
• ◆ Charge air system must be free of leaks.
• ◆ After installing the turbocharger, run engine for approx. 1 minute at idling speed; do not rev. up immediately. This ensures the turbocharger is properly lubricated.

• ‒ Check oil level .
