Safety precautions when working on the fuel supply system
Warning!
Fuel system is under pressure! Before opening the system place a cloth around the connection. Then release pressure by carefully loosening the connection.

Note the following points when removing and installing the fuel gauge sender or fuel pump (fuel delivery unit) in the fuel tank:

  • ◆ The fuel tank must not be more than 1/3 full. If necessary, draw off excess fuel with extractor V.A.G 1433 A.
  • ◆ Before commencing work, switch on exhaust extraction system and place an extraction hose close to the sender opening in the fuel tank to extract escaping petrol fumes.
If no exhaust extraction system is available, a radial fan (as long as motor is not in air flow) with a displacement greater than 15 m3/h can be used.
  • ◆ Prevent skin contact with petrol. Wear fuel-resistant gloves.
