Checking adaption of zero position for exhaust gas recirculation valve -N18-
  Note
t  After replacing the engine control unit or the exhaust gas recirculation valve -N18-, the engine control unit and the exhaust gas recirculation valve must be adapted to one another → Vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system VAS 5051.
t  Check the adaption status and the zero position before performing repair measures.
Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051-

Procedure
–  Connect vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051- and select vehicle system “01 - Engine electronics” from list. Engine must be idling.
Display on -VAS 5051-
–  From the selection menu -1- select diagnostic function “04 - Basic setting”.

1 - Enter display group
–  Enter “74” on keypad -2- for “display group 074” and confirm your entry by pressing the Q key.

–  Activate basic setting by touching Activate key -A-.

–  Check display in zones -1- and -4-.

l  1) If the specification is not attained, check the exhaust gas recirculation valve -N18- for dirt and foreign objects; renew valve if necessary.
l  2) If the specification is not attained: Perform electrical check of exhaust gas recirculation valve -N18-.

  Note
The abbreviation “ADP” in display zone 4 stands for “Adaption”.
–  Exit function “04 - Basic setting” by pressing the ← key.
–  Press “06 - End output”.
–  Switch off ignition.
