Removing and installing toothed belt

Removing

Removing and installing ribbed belt

  • ‒ Unclip toothed belt guard from both sides.
  • ‒ → Turn engine manually into TDC position.
  • ‒ Inspect position of camshaft:
    The large bore of the securing plates on the camshaft wheels must face each other internally, otherwise turn crankshaft further by one turn.
  • ‒ Unbolt reference marking senders from left of crank housing.

  • ‒ The TDC bore of the crankshaft must be behind the bore of the removed ignition timer sender (cannot be seen or felt).
  • ‒ → Bolt crankshaft bracket 3242 into the bore of the removed ignition timer sender and tighten.
  • ‒ Removing tensioning device for ribbed belt,
  • ‒ Remove left and right toothed belt guard
  • ‒ Removing and installing oscillation damper
  • ‒ Remove lower toothed belt guard

Note:

  • ◆ Mark D.O.R. of toothed belt. Running the belt in opposite direction can lead to damage.
  • ‒ Slacken toothed belt tensioning roller
  • ‒ Removing toothed belt

Installing

  • ‒ → Detach camshaft wheels from left and right with claw puller, e.g. KUKKO 20-10 from cone.

Note:

  • ◆ The claws of the puller must grip the rear hub.
  • ‒ Position toothed belt over both camshaft wheels.
  • ‒ Position toothed belt onto all wheels (position tensioning roller last).

  • ‒ → Insert camshaft attachment 3243.

Note:

  • ◆ The camshaft gears must be fitted sufficiently loosely onto the taper face so that they can still be moved on the camshafts but do not tilt.

Tensioning toothed belt

  • ‒ Turn toothed belt tensioning roller with Allen key (A/F 8 mm) towards right and secure.
  • ‒ Tighten toothed belt tensioning roller with second Allen key (A/F 8 mm).
  • ‒ Check toothed belt tension between right-hand camshaft wheel and coolant pump.
 
13-1194
  • ‒ → It should be possible to turn the toothed belt between camshaft wheel and coolant pump with thumb and index finger just about 90°.
  • ‒ Tightening torque of toothed belt tensioning roller 45 Nm
  • ‒ Central bolt of crankshaft
