Removing

• ‒ → Unscrew bolts -arrows- and take off engine cover panels -A ... C-.

• ‒ → Remove air duct -arrows-.

Right-hand catalytic converter:

• ‒ → Unplug connector -1- for lambda probe at bulkhead.

Left-hand catalytic converter:

• ‒ → Unplug connector -2- for lambda probe at bulkhead.

• ‒ Unbolt heat shield -2- on turbocharger.
• ‒ Remove upper bolt -3- securing front exhaust pipe to turbocharger.

• ‒ → Unbolt guard plate -arrows- above drive shaft from gearbox.
• ‒ Unbolt drive shaft -1- at gearbox, move clear and tie up.

• ‒ → Remove cross strut -arrows-.

• ‒ → Remove bracket -arrows-.

• ‒ → Remove gearbox support -arrows-.
• ‒ Loosen exhaust system clamp and push clamp towards silencer.

• ‒ → Loosen hose clamp -1- on turbocharger heat shield.
• ‒ Unbolt exhaust pipe -2- from turbocharger.

Note:

Avoid excessive bending of the flexible pipe connection (decoupling element) on the front exhaust pipe. The angle between the catalytic converter and the front exhaust pipe must not exceed 10 °, otherwise the flexible connection will be damaged.

Installing

• ‒ Install in the reverse order.

Notes:

• ◆ When installing, the lambda probe wire must be secured in exactly the same position as before in order to avoid contact between the wire and the exhaust pipe.
• ◆ The screw thread on the lambda probe is coated with high-temperature paste. This paste must not be allowed to penetrate the openings on the probe.

• ◆ The double clamp must be renewed after unscrewing the bolted connection.
