The radiator fan -V7 is only actuated by the engine control unit on engines with engine code AFN.

Fan actuation after switching off the engine is only implemented:

• ◆ If coolant temperature is more than 100 oC

• and

• ◆ Calculated fuel consumption for last 10 minutes exceeds a certain value, i.e. engine was subjected to considerable loading.

• Radiator fan must start up every 5 s and stop again.

Note:

Temperature-dependent actuation of the radiator fan may also be produced by thermoswitch, automatic gearbox or AC. When performing final control diagnosis ensure that there is no such actuation:

• ‒ Ggf. Motor abkühlen lassen.

• ‒ If radiator fan is not actuated, connect up test box .
• ‒ Connect socket 3 (relay cable) to socket 46 (earth).

• The radiator fan must run.

• ‒ If the radiator fan now runs, but not during final control diagnosis, replace control unit for diesel direct injection system
• ‒ If the radiator fan does not run, test cable connections for continuity and repair if necessary.
