Testing needle lift sender

The needle lift sender signal is required for determining the start of injection. In the event of failure, the start of injection is subject to open-loop control (as a function of engine speed and load), whereas in normal operation it is subject to closed-loop control (governed by engine speed, load and temperature).

Electrical testing of needle lift sender -G80

  • ‒ Detach sender connector => Overview of fitting locations, Page 23-3.
  • ‒ → Use hand-held multimeter V.A.G 1526 to measure resistance between connector contacts.
  • Desired value: 90...120 ω (when the engine is hot the resistance may be up to 20 ω higher)
  • ‒ If desired value is not attained, replace cylinder 3 injector with needle lift sender -G80.

Testing cable connections to needle lift sender -G80

  • ‒ Detach sender connector => Overview of fitting locations, Page 23-3.
  • ‒ Connect up test box

Check following cable connections for short circuit to positive/negative and breaks.
