Checking throttle valve control unit
Adaptation of the throttle valve control unit to the engine control unit

The idle stabilisation requires the engine control unit to know the stop positions of the throttle valve positioner (V60) and the potentiometer characteristics of the throttle valve positioner sensor (G127) and throttle valve potentiometer (G69).

The learning process (adaptation) is necessary if:

  • ◆ The voltage supply to the engine control unit has been interrupted (e.g. the battery disconnected).
  • ◆ The throttle valve control unit was replaced.
  • ◆ The engine control unit has been renewed.
  • ◆ The fault number 17967 exists in the fault memory.

The learning process (adaptation process) is performed:

  • ◆ Automatically if the ignition is switched on once for at least 6 seconds without actuating the starter or the accelerator pedal.
  • ◆ By initiating the "Basic setting", Display Group 98, with the engine stopped.
  • ‒ Select "Basic setting", Display Group 98, with engine stopped .

→ Indicated on display:
Default setting 98    ⇒
    4.420 V    3.880 V            Idle    ADP. running

After you have pressed the Q key, the throttle valve positioner is run to min and to max, and to five intermediate positions, and the control unit stores the respective throttle valve angle in the non-volatile memory. This process takes no more than 10 seconds. The throttle then moves into the start position for approx. 20 s, then into the rest position (no electrical supply).

→ Indicated on display:
Default setting 98    ⇒
    4.420 V    3.880 V    Idle     ADP. OK.
  • Adaptation has been successfully carried out.

→ If one of these messages appears on the display, the adaptation would then be terminated.
Default setting 98    ⇒
    4.420 V    3.880 V    Idle        ADP. ERROR

Following faults are possible:
Function is unknown or cannot
be performed at the moment
  • ◆ Engine started during adaptation.
  • ◆ Battery voltage less than 10 V
  • ◆ Throttle control cable not OK
  • ◆ Wiring connection between throttle valve control unit and engine control unit defective.
  • ◆ Throttle valve control unit defective.
