Checking ignition system
Checking control unit power supply
Test requirements:
-
● Fuse for engine control unit OK
=> Current Flow Diagrams, Electrical Fault-Finding and Fitting Locations
-
● Battery voltage at least 11 V
-
● Alternator OK
-
‒ Connect test box V.A.G 1598/31 to wiring harness for engine control unit; do not connect the engine control unit .

‒ Switch the ignition on.
Note:
-
◆ The positive voltage supply to the engine control unit is provided via contact 3 (terminal 15) and contact 62 (terminal 30).
-
◆ The earth connection to the engine control unit is provided via contact 1 and contact 2.
-
‒ Connect the V.A.G 1526 handheld multimeter for voltage measurement to the following contacts on the test box:
