Functional check on control light

‒ Switch on the ignition.
-
‒ If no faults relating to the electronic throttle system are stored in the fault memory, the EPC light should come on for about three seconds.
A - Electronic throttle control fault lamp
-K132 does not light up
-
‒ Connect the V.A.G 1598/31 test box to wiring harness leading to engine control unit; engine control unit should not be connected .
-
‒ Bridge sockets 1 and 48 on test box.
-
‒ Switch on the ignition.
-
‒ The fault lamp must light up
If the warning lamp does not light up:
-
‒ Switch off ignition.
-
‒ Remove dash panel insert and check both bulb and voltage supply.
=> Electrical system; Repair group 90; Dash panel insert; Removing and installing dash panel insert
If no fault is found:
-
‒ Check for open circuit and short to positive or earth in the following wiring connections:

‒ Rectify any open/short as necessary.
If the wiring is OK:
-
‒ Replace engine control unit => Page 24-23.
B - Electronic throttle control fault lamp
-K132 permanently lit
-
‒ Interrogate the fault memory of the engine control unit.
If no fault is stored:
-
‒ Connect the V.A.G 1598/31 test box to wiring harness leading to engine control unit; engine control unit should not be connected => Page 24-20.

‒ Check the following wiring for short to earth:

‒ Eliminate short circuit, if necessary
If the wiring is OK:

‒ Replace engine control unit => Page 24-23.
