Testing auxiliary signals
Checking engine speed signal
Note:
The engine speed signal is taken from contact 37 on the engine control unit. The signal is used for various functions including the rev counter display on the dash panel insert.

‒ Connect test box V.A.G 1598/31 to wiring harness for engine control unit. Do not connect to the engine control unit itself.

‒ Test for open circuit and short to positive or earth in the following wiring connection:
