Notes:

  • ◆ If engine control unit is replaced, the new unit must be subsequently checked to determine whether it has the correct coding.
  • ‒ Connect up vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051 or fault reader V.A.G 1551 and select engine electronics control unit with "Address word" 01 .
    For this purpose, the ignition must be switched on.
 
→ The display on fault reader V.A.G 1551 will show the control unit identification code e.g.:
8D0907551.. 2.7l    V6/5VT    G    0002    "
Code 04711    WSC 06388

The code corresponding to the vehicle must be displayed, see encoding table

  • ◆ Traction control system is often abbreviated with "TCS". Electronic stability program is abbreviated with "ESP".
  • ◆ If the vehicle is fitted with "ESP", this is shown by the "ESP" switch in the centre console.

If the corresponding vehicle coding is not displayed:

  • ‒ Press the ⇒key.
 
→ When adjacent display appears:
Rapid data transfer    HELP
Select function XX
  • ‒ Enter "07" for the function "Encode control unit" and confirm entry with Q key.
 
→ When adjacent display appears:
Code control unit    Q
Enter code number XXXXX     (0-32000)
  • ‒ Enter the corresponding vehicle control unit code as per encoding table and press the Q key => Page 01-98.
 
→ If following message is displayed on tester:
Function unknown or cannot    ⇒
be carried out at the moment

Please check using parts catalogue whether correct engine control unit is fitted (part number; control unit may not be codeable). It may also be possible that an unauthorised code number was entered. If necessary repeat the coding procedure.

  • ‒ Press the ⇒key.
 
→ Display:
Rapid data transfer     HELP
Select function XX
  • ‒ Press keys 0 and 6 for the "End output" function and press the Q key to confirm entry.
