Special tools and workshop equipment required

  • ◆ V.A.G 1526 A
  • ◆ V.A.G 1527 B
  • ◆ V.A.G 1594 A

Note:

Engines in line with emission standard ECE 15.04 (=> Coding control unit, Page 01-52) only have one Lambda probe for bank 1.

Checking internal resistance

  • ‒ Unplug Lambda probe connector for left hand or right hand cylinder bank.
    (Installation position )

A24-0012
  • ‒ → Connect multimeter between contacts 1 and 2 to measure resistance.
    • ‒ Specified value at room temperature 3 ... 15 ω

Note:

The resistance will increase sharply at higher temperatures.

If the specification is not obtained:

  • ‒ Replace Lambda probe.

Checking power supply

Test requirements:

  • ● Voltage supply to engine control unit greater than 11 V, Testing .

A24-0013
  • ‒ → Connect up voltage tester V.A.G 1527 B between contacts 1 and 2.
  • ‒ Operate the starter briefly (the engine may start).
    • ‒ The LED should light up.

If the LED does not light up:

  • ‒ Carry out the following tests (marked with dots):

A97-0022
  • ● → Check fuse S229 (in fuse holder, position 29).

A24-0013
  • ● → Check for open circuit between contact 1 of connector and fuse S229 (in fuse holder, position 29) (if necessary, check contact assignment).

=> "Current Flow Diagrams, Electrical Fault Finding and Fitting Locations" binder

  • ● Check wiring between contact 2 of connector and earth connection 1 in engine compartment wiring harness for open circuit.

=> "Current Flow Diagrams, Electrical Fault Finding and Fitting Locations" binder

  • ● Check fuel pump relay .
