  • ‒ Connect vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051 (or fault reader V.A.G 1551) and select engine electronics control unit by entering address word "01" ( .)
    When doing this the ignition must be switched on.
 
→ Indicated on display:
Rapid data transfer     HELP
Select function XX
  • ‒ Enter "07" for the function "Code control unit" and confirm entry with Q key.
 
→ Indicated on display:
Code control unit    Q
Enter code number XXXXX (0-32000)
  • ‒ Enter the correct code number for the vehicle and confirm by pressing Q.

1)The abbreviation "ESP" stands for electronic stability program. There will be an ESP switch in the centre console if the vehicle is equipped with an ESP system.

 
→ The display on fault reader V.A.G 1551 will show the control unit identification, as in this example.

  • ‒ Repeat procedure, entering correct code number.
  • ‒ Press ⇒key.

Select function XX
  • ‒ Press keys 0 and 6 for the function "End output" and confirm entry with the Q key.

Note:

An incorrect coding results in:

  • ◆ Engine performance problems / poor driveability
  • ◆ Increased fuel consumption
  • ◆ Increased emissions
  • ◆ Faults stored in fault memory which are not actually present
