Renewing diesel direct injection system control unitJ248
Renewing diesel direct injection system control unit -J248-
  Note
When the engine control unit is disconnected, the learnt values are erased but the contents of the fault memory remain intact.
Removing
–  Connect up the vehicle diagnostic and service information system -VAS 5052- and select the engine electronics control unit. When doing this, the ignition must be switched on.
   
The fault reader display shows the control unit identification and the coding -2-.
–  Always start by displaying the control unit identification and printing it out.
–  Switch off ignition.
–  Remove cover of protective housing for diesel direction injection system control unit -J248-.

–  Carefully lever off retaining strap with a screwdriver -arrow-.
–  Then unlock the control unit connectors from diesel direct injection system control unit -J248- and unplug them.
–  Take out old diesel direct injection system control unit -J248- and install new control unit.
Installing
Installation is performed in the reverse sequence.
–  Interrogate and, if necessary, erase fault memory.
–  Perform coding of new diesel direct injection system control unit -J248- → Chapter.
–  Adapt immobilizer to diesel direct injection system control unit -J248- via “Guided Fault Finding or Guided Functions”.
–  On vehicles with cruise control (recognisable from the steering column switch), activate the cruise control function in the engine control unit → Chapter.
