Checking fluid level, bleeding steering system, leak test
Bleeding steering system following conversion work
On completion of steering-system conversion work, system is to be bled in different ways depending on extent of conversion work.
After replacement of entire steering system or steering box:
-
‒ Check hydraulic fluid level and top up fluid if necessary.
-
‒ Raise vehicle such that front wheels are free.
-
‒ Briefly start engine (max. 2 s).
Pump must not draw in air; steering wheel must not be turned.
Waiting time between individual engine starts approx. 30 s.
-
‒ Check hydraulic fluid level and top up fluid if necessary.
-
‒ Keep repeating this procedure until fluid level remains constant.
-
‒ Turn steering wheel 10 * from lock to lock with engine switched off.
-
‒ Check hydraulic fluid level and top up fluid if necessary.
-
‒ Start engine.
-
‒ Turn steering wheel 10 * from lock to lock.
-
‒ Check hydraulic fluid level and top up fluid if necessary.
Any air remaining in steering system escapes automatically whilst driving after approx. 10 . . . 20 km.
On conversion of steering system component other than steering box (pump, tubing, etc.):
-
‒ Check hydraulic fluid level and top up fluid if necessary.
-
‒ Briefly start engine (max. 2 s).
Pump must not draw in air; steering wheel must not be turned.
Waiting time between individual engine starts approx. 30 s.
-
‒ Check hydraulic fluid level and top up fluid if necessary.
-
‒ Keep repeating this procedure until fluid level remains constant.
-
‒ Start engine and let it run for 2 - 3 minutes; do not turn steering wheel.
Any air remaining in steering system escapes automatically whilst driving after approx. 10 . . . 20 km.
