Removing

  • ‒ → Unclip and detach top engine cover -arrows-.

  • ‒ → Remove ribbed belt cover -arrows-.
  • ‒ Remove ribbed belt.

=> 6-cyl. Engine (2-valve), Mechanics; Repair Group 13; Dismantling and assembling engine

  • ‒ Pull ignition cables out of ignition coils.

=> MPFI Injection and Ignition System; Repair Group 28; Checking ignition system; Removing and installing ignition components

  • ‒ Remove ignition coils with holder.
  • ‒ Unscrew pulley of vane pump whilst providing support with gripping wrench if necessary.
  • ‒ Place drip tray in position.
  • ‒ Use hose clamp -3094- to pinch off suction pipe with hose.
  • ‒ Detach pressure and suction pipe from vane pump.
    • ‒ Seal off pressure pipe with a plastic bag or the like.

  • ‒ → Screw out bolts -1- and -4- and remove bracket -2- with vane pump -3-.
  • ‒ Screw out bolts -5- and -6- and take vane pump out of bracket.

In the interests of clarity, removal of bracket and vane pump is shown without surrounding components.

Installing

  • ‒ Fill vane pump with hydraulic fluid.
  • Pour in fluid at pump suction connection.
  • ‒ Turn hub by hand until fluid emerges from delivery end.
  • ◆ Clean areas in engine compartment contaminated with fluid.

  • ‒ → Insert vane pump -3- in bracket -2-.
  • ‒ Screw in and tighten bolts -5- and -6-.
  • ‒ Position bracket with vane pump on cylinder block.
  • ‒ Screw in and tighten bolts -1- and -4-.
  • ‒ Position suction pipe with hose on vane pump and fit new clamp.
  • ‒ Mark -P- at suction hose must be aligned with seam at pump.
  • ‒ Fit new sealing rings on banjo bolt.
  • ‒ Tighten banjo bolt for pressure hose.
  • ‒ Detach hose clamps -3094-.
  • ‒ Install ignition coils with holder.
  • ‒ Attach ignition cables to ignition coils.

=> MPFI Injection and Ignition System; Repair Group 28; Checking ignition system; Removing and installing ignition components

  • ‒ Install vane pump pulley.
  • ‒ Fit ribbed belt.

=> 6-cyl. Engine (2-valve), Mechanics; Repair Group 13; Dismantling and assembling engine

When installing belt, make sure it is properly seated in pulleys.

  • ‒ Fit cover for ribbed belt.
  • ‒ Fit top engine cover.
  • ‒ Fill with hydraulic fluid G 002 000.
  • ‒ Start engine and check belt running.
  • ‒ Check hydraulic fluid level .
  • ‒ Bleed steering system .
  • ‒ Check steering system for leaks .
