  • ◆ 3212 Pin wrench
  • ◆ V.A.G 1275 Hose clamp pliers
  • ◆ V.A.G 1331 Torque wrench

  • ◆ Replace sealing rings.
  • ◆ Do not re-use hydraulic fluid drained off.

    • ◆ When slackening off and tightening, provide support with pin wrench -3212-

Removing

  • ‒ Remove bumper.

  • ‒ Move lock carrier to service position.

=> General Body Repairs, Exterior; Repair Group 50; Front Body

  • ‒ → Unfasten bolted joints -arrows- and detach front cover.
  • ‒ Remove viscous fan.

=> 6-cyl. Engine (5-valve Turbo), Mechanics; Repair Group 19; Removing and installing cooling system components

  • ‒ Remove ribbed belt for vane pump.

=> 6-cyl. Engine (5-valve Turbo), Mechanics; Repair Group 13; Removing and installing ribbed belt

  • ‒ → Remove pressure pipes -1-.

Note:

Pay attention to retainers -2-.

  • ‒ → Unscrew pulley of vane pump whilst providing support with pin wrench -3212-.

  • ‒ → Use hose clamp -3094- to pinch off suction pipe.
 
A48-0303
  • ‒ → Unplug connector at charge pressure sender -G31 -arrow-.
  • ‒ Detach rubber elbow -1-.

 
A48-0304
  • ‒ → Unfasten clamp -arrow- and detach suction hose from pump.
  • ‒ Unscrew pressure pipe -1-.
  • ‒ Unscrew vane pump bracket, items -2, 3 and 4-.
  • ‒ Take out bracket with pump.
  • ‒ Then unscrew vane pump from bracket.

Installing

  • ‒ Fill vane pump with hydraulic fluid.
  • Pour in fluid at pump suction connection.
  • ‒ Turn hub by hand until fluid emerges from delivery end.
  • ◆ Clean areas in engine compartment contaminated with fluid.
  • ‒ Screw pump to bracket.
  • ‒ Tighten the two front bolts first, then the one at the rear (22 Nm).
 
A48-0304
  • ‒ → Insert pump with bracket.
  • ‒ Fit new sealing rings on banjo bolt.
  • ‒ Tighten banjo bolt for pressure pipe -1- to 50 Nm.
  • ‒ Fit suction hose; mark -P- must be aligned with parting line at pump.
  • ‒ Detach hose clamps -3094-.
 
A48-0303
  • ‒ → Fit rubber elbow -1-.
  • ‒ Plug in connector at charge pressure sender -G31 -arrow-.
  • ‒ Tighten hexagon socket-head bolts of pulleys for vane pump to
    22 Nm.

 
A13-0177
  • ‒ → Fit pressure pipes -1-.

Note:

Pay attention to retainers -2-.

  • ‒ Fit ribbed belt for vane pump.

=> 6-cyl. Engine (5-valve Turbo), Mechanics; Repair Group 13; Removing and installing ribbed belt

  • ‒ Fit viscous fan.

=> 6-cyl. Engine (5-valve Turbo), Mechanics; Repair Group 19; Removing and installing cooling system components

  • ‒ → Install front cover.
  • ‒ Attach lock carrier.

=> General Body Repairs, Exterior; Repair Group 50; Front Body; Lock carrier service position

  • ‒ Fit bumper.
  • ‒ Fill with hydraulic fluid G 002 000.
  • ‒ Check hydraulic fluid level .
  • ‒ Bleed steering system .
  • ‒ Check steering system for leaks .
