Vehicle pull and crash vehicles

Vehicle pull

This may be due to rack in steering box not being positioned exactly in the centre when driving in a straight line.

This is enough to result in slight hydraulic steering assistance to left or right and cause vehicle to pull.

Always check centre position of rack when performing wheel alignment on a vehicle subject to "Pulling to one side or at an angle".

Rack in steering box must be positioned exactly in centre when adjusting toe/toe constant.

Crash vehicles

Steering centring must be performed on such vehicles before checking or adjusting toe or toe constant "S".

Checking centre position of rack

  • ‒ Perform steering centring as instructed by wheel alignment computer.
  • ‒ Screw for steering centring V.A.G 1907 must be inserted to centre rack , Fig.1.
  • ‒ Check whether steering wheel is as close as possible to being horizontal on steering column with wheels facing straight ahead.
  • ‒ If necessary, re-position steering wheel accordingly.

Otherwise centre position of rack is not guaranteed.

If steering wheel is re-positioned on such vehicles, zero position compensation must be performed for steering angle sender -G85.
