Vehicles with 6-cyl. naturally aspirated engine > < Removing and installing alternator

Removing
–  With ignition switched off, disconnect earth cable at battery → Chapter.
Vehicles with 1.6 ltr. 2V bucket tappet engine (AHL, ANA, ARM):
–  Press guide funnel for dipstick upwards off guide tube.
   
Vehicles with 1.8 ltr. 5V turbo engine:
–  Detach air intake hose -1- from charge air cooler at throttle valve housing.

Disregard -arrows-.

  Note
Before removing, mark running direction of poly V-belt with chalk or felt-tipped pen. If the poly V-belt runs in the opposite direction when it is refitted, this can cause breakage.
–  To slacken poly V-belt, pivot tensioner in direction indicated -arrow-.
–  Remove poly V-belt from alternator pulley.
–  Release pressure from tensioner.
  A13-0125
–  Secure pulley for viscous fan with bolt M5x60 mm.
–  Unscrew viscous fan using Allen key.

–  Remove hexagon socket head bolt -1-.
–  Unscrew nut -2-.
–  Pivot alternator slightly to one side and pull out bolt at bottom.
  Note
t  If alternator sticks in bracket, screw bolt back in again down to the last 2 turns.
t  Tap carefully on bolt heads with flat side of hammer to release threaded bushes of alternator mount.
  A27-0029
–  Disengage wiring harness from cable tie -arrow-.
–  Disconnect wire -2- for terminal 30/B+ at alternator.
–  Unscrew D+ terminal -item 1-.

–  If fitted, remove cover -arrow- from power steering reservoir.
–  Carefully push coolant hose to one side and lift out alternator.
Installing
Installation is carried out in the reverse order; note the following:
–  To facilitate positioning of alternator, drive back bushes for securing bolts slightly.
  Note
Stiff alternator mount bushes must be freed; otherwise the clamping force of the bush will not be adequate even when the bolts are tightened to the correct torque.
–  Make sure poly V-belt is properly positioned and correctly routed.

Vehicles with 1.6 ltr. 2V engine (AHL, ANA, ARM, ALZ):
1 - without air conditioning system
2 - with air conditioning system

Vehicles with 1.6 ltr. 2V engine (ADP) or 1.8 ltr. 5V engine:
1 - without air conditioning system
2 - with air conditioning system
All models:
–  Connect battery. Additional steps required → Anchor.
–  Start engine and check that belt runs properly.
