Interrogating fault memory
Interrogating fault memory
  Note
t  The operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255- switches automatically to “Econ” mode if, following installation of a new operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255-, basic setting was not performed or if the pressure measured by the high-pressure sender -G65- is too low or too high (the compressor must not be activated) → Chapter. This status is displayed as being a fault as of hardware/software version “0711”.
t  If, after switching on the ignition, the operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255- switches automatically to “Off” mode and if it is only possible to set “Def” mode with the ignition switched on (no other settings possible), the ignition has been switched on for example using a key not released for the vehicle concerned or the control unit in dash panel insert -J285- is not transmitting a key number by way of the convenience data bus system (provided as of hardware/software version “0711”).
t  If the operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255- displays a number, interrogate the fault memory of the operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255- (the number “60” for example indicates a fault at the temperature sensor blower -V42-). If the display of the operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255- flashes and no fault is displayed in the fault memory (e.g. with display “09”), there is a fault in the electronics of the operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255-.

–  With the ignition switched off, connect up vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051A- for example using diagnostic wire -VAS 5051/5A- and K-wire adapter -VAS 6017B- (or K-wire adapter -VAS 6017A-) to the 16-pin diagnostic socket in the vehicle and use address word “08” to select air conditioner/heater electronics → Chapter.
Indicated on display of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051A-:
–  Select function “02 - Interrogating fault memory”.

Indicated on display of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051A-:
t  Number of stored faults appears in display zone -1-.
t  Fault code, fault location and type of faults stored appear in display zone -2-.
  Note
t  Touch key to return to selection program.
t  If no fault has been detected and there are problems with the air conditioner (e.g. constant or intermittent failure of cooling output, unsatisfactory system control, no regulation of fresh-air blower speed, operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255- always switches to “Econ” or “Off” mode):
t  1. Read measured value block (function 08) → Chapter.
t  2. Perform final control diagnosis (function 03) → Chapter.
t  3. Check cooling output of air conditioner → Chapter.
t  If fault(s) are found:
t  1. Rectify fault.
t  2. Interrogate fault memory (function 02).
t  3. Erase fault memory (function 05).
t  4. Check encoding of operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255- or control unit in dash panel insert -J285- → Chapter.
t  5. Perform basic setting (function 04).
t  6. Interrogate fault memory (function 02) and if necessary eliminate faults displayed, erase fault memory (function 05) and repeat procedure.
t  7. End output (function 06).
  A87-0316
Indicated on display of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 5051A-:
–  End output (function 06) → Chapter.
–  Switch off ignition and unplug diagnostic connector.
