Removing and installing front exhaust pipe (right-side) with catalytic converter - vehicles with manual gearbox

Removing   Note All cable ties which are released or cut open when removing must be refitted in the same position when installing. –  Pull off engine cover panel (rear) -arrows-.

–  Pull non-return valve -1- off connection at air intake hose. –  Remove air intake hose. To do so, release hose clip -2- and clamps -arrows-.

–  Unplug electrical connector -2- for Lambda probe after catalytic converter -G130- and move wiring clear (downwards).   Note Disregard -item 1-.

–  Unscrew nut -2- (accessible from above) connecting front exhaust pipe to exhaust manifold.   Note Shown from rear with engine removed for illustration purposes. –  Remove front right wheel.

–  Vehicles with auxiliary heater: remove bolts -arrows- securing exhaust pipe for auxiliary/additional heater to noise insulation.

–  Open quick-release fasteners -1 … 3- and take off front and rear noise insulation.

–  Unbolt heat shield -1- for drive shaft (right-side).

–  Unscrew nuts -1- and -3- (accessible from below) connecting front exhaust pipe to exhaust manifold.   Note Shown in illustration with engine removed.

–  Remove nut -2- on bracket (right-side) for front exhaust pipe.   Note Disregard -item 1-.

–  Disconnect exhaust system at clamp -right arrow-. –  Detach front exhaust pipe with catalytic converter. Installing Installation is carried out in the reverse order; note the following:   Note t  Renew gaskets, O-ring and self-locking nuts. t  Secure all hose connections with the correct type of hose clips (same as original equipment) → Electronic parts catalogue. t  Fit all cable ties in the original positions when installing. t  When installing, the Lambda probe wire must always be reattached at the same locations to prevent it from coming into contact with the exhaust pipe. –  Align exhaust system so it is free of stress → Chapter.   Note Mounting components for exhaust system → Fig.. Tightening torques
