Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Hose clip pliers -V.A.G 1921-

Removing
–  Remove engine: Vehicles with manual gearbox → Chapter; vehicles with automatic gearbox → Chapter.
–  Remove bolts -1- and -2-.
  Note
To prevent fluid from escaping, the hose -arrow- remains attached to the power steering.

–  Unbolt dipstick guide tube on cylinder head -arrow- and lift out upwards.

–  Remove bolts -1- and -2-.
–  Loosen hose clips -arrows- and detach coolant pipe (left-side) from coolant hoses.
Installing
Installation is carried out in the reverse order; note the following:
  Note
t  Renew O-ring.
t  Secure all hose connections with the correct type of hose clips (same as original equipment) → Parts catalogue.
–  Renew O-ring on guide tube for oil dipstick and insert guide tube into hole in top section of sump.
–  Install engine: vehicles with manual gearbox → Chapter; vehicles with automatic gearbox → Chapter.
