Removing and installing power steering pump (vehicles with 6-cyl. petrol engine) (FSI) Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Pin wrench -3212- t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1331- t  Hose clamps up to 25 mm Ø -3094- Removing –  Remove noise insulation → Rep. Gr.50. –  Remove bumper → Rep. Gr.63. –  Move lock carrier to service position → Rep. Gr.50.

–  Remove cover above hydraulic fluid reservoir (if fitted). –  Remove poly V-belt → Rep. Gr.13.   Note Before removing poly V-belt, mark direction of rotation. A used belt can break if it runs in the opposite direction. Ensure that the belt is properly seated in the pulleys when installing. Detaching compressor for air conditioner:   Note t  The lines remain connected and must not be bent. t  After detaching, tie up compressor on longitudinal member using wire or similar; do not leave it suspended on refrigerant pipes. t  Ensure centring bush -B- is properly seated when installing compressor.

–  Remove bolts -A-.

–  Unbolt power steering pump pulley, using pin wrench 3212 to counterhold.   Note Shown with engine removed for illustration purposes.

–  Clamp off suction and return lines with hose clamps -3094-. –  Place a drip tray underneath to catch hydraulic fluid.

–  Detach hose clip from suction hose -1-. –  Disconnect suction hose and move hose to one side. –  Disconnect expansion hose -2-. –  Seal off connections with plugs.

–  Remove bolt -2-. –  Remove bolts -1- (3x) and take out power steering pump -3-. Installing Installation is carried out in the reverse sequence. Note the following points: Tightening torques → Rep. Gr.13   Note t  Renew gaskets and seals. t  Before fitting a new power steering pump, put in hydraulic fluid at the inlet and rotate pump by hand until fluid comes out at the pressure outlet. t  Secure all hose connections with new hose clips → Electronic parts catalogue “ETKA”.

Marking -P- on suction hose -1- must be aligned with seam on power steering pump -2--arrows-. –  Clean off fluid in engine compartment where necessary. –  Bolt on power steering pump pulley → Rep.-Gr. 13; Dismantling and assembling engine. –  Install A/C compressor. → Air conditioning; Rep. Gr. 87: Servicing work on refrigerant circuit Install poly V-belt for power steering pump → Rep. Gr.13. –  Attach lock carrier → Rep. Gr.50. –  Install bumper → Rep. Gr.63. –  Check hydraulic fluid level → Chapter. –  Bleed steering system → Chapter. –  Check steering system for leaks → Chapter. –  Fit noise insulation → Rep. Gr.50.
