Removing
  WARNING
High voltage! Danger to life! Observe environmental requirements.
Safety precautions when handling gas discharge lamps → Electrical system; General information; Rep. Gr.94.
–  With ignition switched off, disconnect earth cable at battery → Chapter.
Headlight (left-side):
–  Remove top section of washer fluid reservoir and power steering reservoir → Chapter.
Headlight (right-side) - vehicles with 1.6 ltr. and 2.0 ltr. MPI engine:
–  Remove air cleaner housing → Chapter.
Headlight (right-side) - vehicles with 1.8 ltr. turbo engine:
–  Remove air cleaner housing → Chapter.
Headlight (right-side) - vehicles with 2.0 ltr. FSI engine:
–  Remove air cleaner housing → Chapter.
Headlight (right-side) - vehicles with 2.0 ltr. TFSI engine:
–  Remove air cleaner housing → Chapter.
Headlight (right-side) - vehicles with 2.4 ltr. or 3.0 ltr. MPI engine:
–  Remove air cleaner housing → Chapter.
Headlight (right-side) - vehicles with 3.2 ltr. FSI engine:
–  Remove air cleaner housing → Chapter.
Headlight (right-side) - vehicles with 4.2 ltr. MPI engine - Audi S4:
–  Remove air cleaner housing → Chapter.
Headlight (right-side) - vehicles with 4.2 ltr. FSI engine - Audi RS4:
–  Remove air cleaner housing → Chapter.
Right headlight - vehicles with 4-cyl. TDI engine:
–  Remove air cleaner housing → Chapter.
Right headlight - vehicles with 6-cyl. TDI engine:
–  Remove air cleaner housing → Chapter.
   
Both sides (continued):
–  Unscrew bolts -1- and -2-.
–  Detach cover for dipped beam from headlight housing -arrow-.

–  Detach electrical wire from retainers -arrow-.
–  Unplug electrical connector -4-.
–  Release retaining clips -1- and -3- and take gas discharge lamp -2- out of housing.
Installing
Installation is carried out in the reverse order; note the following:
–  Insert new gas discharge lamp in housing; do not touch glass bulb with bare hands.
  Note
Note installation position: the electrical connection must always point downwards.
–  Secure gas discharge lamp with retaining clips.
–  Connect the battery. Additional steps required → Anchor.
