Removing and installing airbag (front passenger side) with igniter N131 / N132

Removing
  WARNING
t  Observe safety regulations for pyrotechnic components → Chapter.
t  Observe disposal regulations for pyrotechnic components → Chapter.
t  For correct combination of dash panel and airbag unit refer to → Electronic parts catalogue.
  Note
From week 45/2010 onwards, the airbag igniter 2 is discontinued for all RoW vehicles (except USA vehicles)
–  Switch on ignition.
–  With ignition switched on, disconnect battery earth wire → Electrical system; Rep. gr.27.
   
–  Remove glove box → Chapter.
  WARNING
Before handling pyrotechnic components (e.g. unplugging the electrical connector) the mechanic must discharge static electricity by briefly touching the door striker plate, or similar.
–  Unplug earth connector -5-.
–  Unplug electrical connectors -2- for airbag igniter 2 on front passenger side -N132- and -6- for airbag igniter 1 on front passenger side -N131-.

–  To do so, use a small screwdriver -1- to release connector locking element -3- and unplug electrical connector -2-.

–  Remove nuts -1, 3, 4, 7-.
–  Take out airbag (front passenger side) -8- downwards.
  WARNING
Set down airbag with impact cushion facing upwards.
Installing
  WARNING
t  Observe safety regulations for pyrotechnic components → Chapter.
t  Before handling pyrotechnic components (e.g. plugging in the electrical connector) the mechanic must discharge static electricity by briefly touching the door striker plate, or similar.
t  For correct allocation of dash panel and airbag refer to → Electronic parts catalogue.
Installation is carried out in the reverse order; note the following:

t  Make sure electrical connectors are fitted correctly (as far as stop) and engage audibly.
t  Make sure that wiring is not trapped.
–  Renew dash panel after an airbag has been triggered → Chapter.
  WARNING
The battery must be connected with the ignition switched on. If pyrotechnic components (e.g. airbag or belt tensioner) are inexpertly repaired, this may result in unwanted triggering after connecting the battery. There must not be anyone in the vehicle while you are connecting the battery.
–  With ignition switched on, connect battery earth wire → Electrical system; Rep. gr.27.
  Note
If the airbag warning lamp -K75- indicates a fault following installation, you must interrogate, erase and then re-interrogate the event memory → Vehicle diagnostic tester.
