Removing and installing seat occupied sensor
Removing and installing seat occupied sensor
  Note
The seat occupied sensor (front passenger side) -G128- is only fitted in the front passenger's seat.
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Hot air blower -VAS 1978/14A- (only for convenience seat)
Removing
  WARNING
t  Observe safety regulations for pyrotechnic components → Chapter.
t  Before handling pyrotechnic components (e.g. unplugging the electrical connector) the mechanic must discharge static electricity by briefly touching the door striker plate, or similar.
–  Remove front passenger's seat:
t  Standard seat and sports seat (with manual adjustment) → Chapter „Removing and installing front standard seat (with manual adjustment)“.
t  Standard seat, sports seat (with electric adjustment), convenience seat and super sports seat → Chapter „Removing and installing front standard seat (with electric adjustment)“.
–  Attach front seat to seat repair stand -VAS 6136- → Chapter.
–  Detach seat cover from padding (seat pan) → Chapter.
  Note
Detach padding from backrest just far enough to gain access to seat occupied sensor.
   
Standard seat and sports seat (with manual or electric adjustment):
–  Unplug connector for seat occupied sensor.
–  Carefully detach seat occupied sensor -2- with printed circuit -4- from seat padding -1-.
  Note
-Arrows- can be disregarded.

Convenience seat:
–  Carefully heat seat heating element -1- on left side using hot air blower, 220 V / 50 Hz -VAS 1978/14-.

–  Pull off seat heating element -2- just far enough -arrow- so that seat occupied sensor -1- is laid bare.

–  Unplug connector for seat occupied sensor.
–  Carefully detach seat occupied sensor -4- with printed circuit -3- from seat padding -1-.

Super sports seat:
–  Unplug connector for seat occupied sensor -2-.
–  Carefully detach seat occupied sensor -2- with printed circuit -4- from seat padding -1-.
Installing
  WARNING

t  Before handling pyrotechnic components (e.g. plugging in the electrical connector) the mechanic must discharge static electricity by briefly touching the door striker plate, or similar.

Standard seat and sports seat (with manual or electric adjustment):
–  Position printed circuit -4- of seat occupied sensor -2- in cut-out -3- in seat padding -1-.
–  Align seat occupied sensor in accordance with markings -arrows- on seat padding.
  Caution
Install new seat occupied sensor in seat padding in same position as old seat occupied sensor.
–  Peel off protective film and stick seat occupied sensor onto seat padding.

Convenience seat:
–  Position printed circuit -3- of seat occupied sensor -4- in cut-out -2- in seat padding -1-.
–  Align seat occupied sensor in accordance with markings -a- on seat padding.
l  Dimension -a- = 20 mm
  Caution
Install new seat occupied sensor in seat padding in same position as old seat occupied sensor.
–  Peel off protective film and stick seat occupied sensor onto seat padding.

Super sports seat:
–  Position printed circuit -4- of seat occupied sensor -2- in cut-out -3- in seat padding -1-.
–  Align seat occupied sensor -2- in accordance with markings -arrows- on seat padding -1-.
  Caution
Install new seat occupied sensor in seat padding in same position as old seat occupied sensor.
–  Peel off protective film and stick seat occupied sensor -2- onto seat padding -1-.
All seat versions (continued):
Perform remaining installation steps in reverse order of removal; observe the following:
  Note
t  Make sure seat occupied sensor is not covered by coils of the seat heating element.
t  Make sure electrical connectors are fitted correctly (as far as stop) and engage audibly.
  WARNING
The battery must be connected with the ignition switched on. If pyrotechnic components (e.g. airbag or belt tensioner) are inexpertly repaired, this may result in unwanted triggering after connecting the battery. There must not be anyone in the vehicle while you are connecting the battery.
–  With ignition switched on, connect battery earth wire → Electrical system; Rep. gr.27.
  Note
If the airbag warning lamp -K75- indicates a fault following installation, you must interrogate, erase and then re-interrogate the event memory → Vehicle diagnostic tester.
