Removing and installing air conditioner operating and display unit
Removing and installing air conditioner operating and display unit
Climatronic control unit -J255-
  Note
The removal and installation operations are identical for both versions („Basic“ and „Deluxe“) of the air conditioner operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255-.
Removing
–  Interrogate the encoding and adaption of the air conditioner operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255- by way of the guided fault-finding „Control unit replacement“ function (if the air conditioner operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255- is to be replaced) → "Guided fault-finding" function of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051.
  Caution
t  Take care not to pull too firmly to avoid damaging the air conditioner operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255- and the centre console on removal.
t  Take care not to damage the surface of the centre console on removal (cover up if necessary).
–  Switch off the ignition.
   
–  Position the hook -3438--A- as shown in one of the openings -B- or -C- of the air conditioner operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255-.
–  Carefully pull the air conditioner operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255- in -arrow direction- out of the centre console.
  Note
The air conditioner operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255- is held in position by the clips (left and right) in the centre console support brackets.
Unplugging connectors from air conditioner operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255-

–  Release the locking element -C- of the connectors -A- and -B- by pulling in arrow direction -arrow-.
–  Press the locking element -D- towards the connector -arrow- and unplug the connectors -A- and -B-.
Installing
Install in reverse order; paying attention to the following:
t  When replacing an air conditioner operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255-, attention must be paid to the exact assignment → Chapter and → Electronic parts catalogue.
Attaching trim panel to operating and display unit on the Audi Q5

–  Wipe over the bonding surface -D- at the operating and display unit -A- e.g. using cleaning fluid D 009 401 04 → Electronic parts catalogue.
–  Install the operating and display unit -A-.
  Note
t  Replacement trim panels -B- are supplied with the double-sided adhesive tape -C- already affixed → Electronic parts catalogue.
t  If the trim panel -B- is to be re-used on replacing the operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255--A-, remove the adhesive tape -C- from the trim panel -B-. Clean the bonding surface at the trim panel -B- as described in the usage and handling instructions for the adhesive tape. Then stick a strip of double-sided adhesive tape -C- (dimensions: 204 mm x 10 mm, thickness approx. 1.2 mm; e.g. adhesive tape D 438 515 A1 → Electronic parts catalogue) onto the trim panel -B-.
–  Position the trim panel -B- with the adhesive tape -C- on the bonding surface -D- of the operating and display unit -A- and align the trim panel -B-.
–  Press the trim panel -B- onto the bonding surface -D-.
t  Always perform the following operations after replacing/installing the air conditioner operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255- → "Guided fault-finding" function of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051:
–  Re-encode (or check the encoding of) the air conditioner operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255-.
–  Perform basic setting of the air conditioner operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255-.
–  Interrogate the event recorder of the air conditioner operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255- (eliminate the cause of any faults displayed) and erase the event recorder.
–  Check and if necessary correct the adaption of the air conditioner operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255-.
–  Perform final control diagnosis for the air conditioner operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255- (depending on the problem concerned).
