There are different versions of the air conditioning unit (for left and right-hand drive vehicles, for vehicles with air conditioner of „Deluxe“ or „Basic“ type etc.) → Electronic parts catalogue.

t  The different versions of the air conditioning units can be distinguished from the outside by the part number -B- on the sticker -A- → Electronic parts catalogue.
t  The part number -B- on the sticker -A- can be read for example with the CD changer removed (depending on vehicle equipment) → Electrical system; Rep. gr.90.

t  On this vehicle, adaption and actuation of the various control motors at the air conditioning unit are performed by way of a signal wire. The control motors are connected in series via this signal wire (LIN bus) to the air conditioner operating and display unit, Climatronic control unit -J255-. The sequence differs for the different versions of the air conditioning unit → Chapter and → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations.
t  Air conditioning units with an additional connection for glove compartment cooling are being gradually introduced as of 01.2008. This connection is sealed with a plug on vehicles not featuring glove compartment cooling → Chapter.
t  Different versions of the levers and connecting elements are fitted at the air conditioning unit depending on the production period → Chapter and → Electronic parts catalogue.
t  As of Model Year 2012 (introduction depending on vehicle model) modified air conditioning units are gradually being introduced (air conditioning unit with part number „8T_ 820 005“). The introduction of these air conditioning units will be accompanied by the installation of different control motors. At present, the different versions of the control motors can be fitted with both air conditioning unit models (combined installation is currently permissible) → Electronic parts catalogue and → "Guided fault-finding" function of vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051.
